Information Security

Recently, there have been many news reports regarding fraudulent e-mails (phishing scams) sent to the Internet customers of major global financial institutions. These e-mails typically try to tempt those institutions' customers to click an embedded "link" to a fairly realistic looking website, where they are asked to enter their usernames, passwords and/or other personal details "for security reasons". Unfortunately, the real reasons have nothing to do with security, and everything to do with an attempt to gain unauthorised access to customers’ bank accounts.

What should you do if you receive such e-mail?

SABB never sends e-mails that ask customers for confidential information to be recorded online. Therefore, if you do receive any suspicious looking e-mail, which appears to come from SABB, it is highly likely that this is fraudulent, and must not be responded to. Instead, please call SABB Direct immediately on 800 124 8888 (inside the Kingdom) or +966 1 405-4343 (overseas) to report the incident to an agent, then delete the suspicious e-mail without responding to it, as the mail may contain a virus Trojan.

Security items such as your Account number, Credit Card Number and PIN, SABBNET / SABB Direct Passwords should always be treated as highly confidential, only to be used when you log into the bank’s service.

Tips to protect you from phishing scams:

  • Never click on Hyperlinks within emails, instead, copy and paste them into your browser. If not, type the link manually.
  • Review Credit Card and Bank Account statements as soon as you receive them to determine whether any charges have been billed to you, which you are not aware of. In case you suspect any unauthorized usage please get your Credit Card/ ATM Card blocked immediately so as to avoid further misuse of it.
  • Delete emails from addresses not familiar to you. DO NOT even open them. Check the box and delete it.
  • DO NOT use computers in INTERNET CAFES for logging into your bank. Use Internet cafes only for ordinary web surfing, checking news, etc.
  • Protect the computers you use with Antivirus, Spam filter and Spyware software. Use personal firewall and keep your computers updated of latest anti-virus definitions and critical security patches of your software.

To ensure a legitimate and safe sign on, always enter SABB's web site www.sabb.com in your browser's address field or book mark https://www.sabbnet.com/jsp/en/PreLogon.jsp for direct SABBNET access.
